Overview:

Proven Techniques that Will Help You Make Effective Real-world Strategic Decisions in Signal Detection

Since the 1990s, the use of data mining methods to screen collections of Individual Case Safety Reports for important reporting patterns have gone from proof-of-concept to widespread use. Currently, there is a growing interest in using screening other sources of realworld medical information such as insurance claims data and electronic patient records for emerging safety issues, developing computational methods which do not rely on disproportionality analysis such as self-controlled case series or temporality techniques. Opportunities for stimulating dialogue between the speakers and the audience will be encouraged. This conference will address all the aspects of signal detection and data mining (covering the methodological aspects, the clinical interpretation as well as the international harmonization initiatives). The conference will bring together an international group of experts to review current state-of-the-art thinking on the future developments in data mining and signal detection – including its applications to other healthcare datasets – and a vision of how public health and patient safety issues will be detected faster and more effectively in the future. The conference will actively encourage you to apply the skills and methods presented by the different experts to make real-world strategic and evidence-based decisions in signal detection.

FEATURED TOPICS

·          Future for analysis of spontaneous reports and other healthcare data with potential applicability to pharmacovigilance,

·          Signal detection successes resulting from data mining spontaneous reports, with a discussion on the pitfalls, evaluation and validation of the methods and real-world implementation,

·          Update on the networks of pharmacoepidemiology and the use of longitudinal/observational databases for signal detection purposes,

·          Update on CIOMS VIII working group on signal detection and management, and

·         FDA Sentinel Initiative and the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP)

CE Credits

·         CME: 12.0 AMA PRA Category 1 credits

·         Nursing 12.0 hours

·         1.2 IACET CEUs

·         ACPE: 12.0 PDUs.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this conference, participants should be able to:

·          Outline the concepts of data mining and the principles of signal detection,

·          Identify specific applications of data mining technology,

·          Describe how drug safety issues will be detected faster and more effectively in the future,

·          Explain and apply the skills needed to make real-world strategic decisions in signal detection in your respective institution, and

·          Develop a skill set/knowledge base to adapt to situations presenting new aspects that don’t fit the usual “textbook” data mining illustrations.

Target Audience:
This conference is designed for new and experienced pharmacovigilance and safety professionals who understand the importance of signal detection and data mining and who want to learn about the latest techniques and understand the future role of this area in drug safety issues. It is aimed at individuals involved in the areas of pharmacovigilance, risk management and clinical safety assessment, pharmacoepidemiology, clinical development of medicines, statistics, regulatory affairs and labeling.
