Welcome from the EuroMeeting Co-Chairs
We are delighted to welcome you to the 26th DIA Annual EuroMeeting to be held in Vienna, Austria, from 25-27 March 2014.
Vienna is regarded by many as "The City of Music", recognised throughout the world for playing an essential role as a leading centre of music, from the great age of Viennese Classicism through the early part of the 20th century. Vienna is also said to be "The City of Dreams" because it was home to the world's first psychoanalyst - Sigmund Freud. The city’s long association with medicine started with the Medical University of Vienna, founded in 1365 as a Medical Faculty of the University of Vienna. Today it is one of the world's oldest, largest and most renowned medical universities. Vienna is also host to many major international organisations, including the United Nations and OPEC. For millions of visitors the historic centre of Vienna is rich in architecture, including Baroque castles and gardens, as well as the late-19thcentury Ringstrasse lined with grand buildings, monuments and parks.
Vienna is in the centre of Europe - ideal for building bridges between East and West, North and South. The 2014 EuroMeeting will be the meeting point and melting pot for all involved in making available the health products of the future. Involving and informing patients and citizens in the whole lifecycle of health product from idea to post-market will be one of the focus areas. A major topic for the 2014 EuroMeeting will be the debate around the proposal for the Clinical Trials Directive. In addition, initiatives on HTA and the start of the implementation of the Directive of Falsified Medicines will be up for discussion.
In 2014 we will also be able to see the outline of the upcoming research programme, ‘Horizon 2020’ and discuss how it will contribute to innovation and availability of medicines and treatments.
The diverse nature of the topics at this EuroMeeting will provide a perfect forum for informed debate and information sharing – in a stunning setting. This can only serve to enhance our understanding which in turn should lead to more, better healthcare solutions. Do join us in this wonderful city for what will be an unforgettable experience.
