Title

Producing Rules for Portugal to Improve Rational Prescribing

Abstract Summary

Produce these prescription rules by adapting to Portugal already existing U.S. materials from an independent academic group of authors: iDis – The Independent Drug Information Service. These original U.S. authors are clinicians affiliated with HMS and BWH in Boston. With time constraints and in crisis mode, adapting prescribing materials from recognized academic groups is a feasible alternative to creating rules afresh. Also, the rules outside origin made it easier to shield them from unduly local commercial influences. These rules have an estimated potential to save 12 million euro a year per set while improving patient safety.
