DIA announced today that Jytte Lyngvig, until recently CEO of the Danish Medicines Agency, has been appointed as the new Director for DIA Europe. She also served on the European Medicines Agency Management Board as Vice-Chair for 5 years and as Chair of the Management Group, Heads of Medicines Agencies, for 6 years.
DIA President, Dr Ling Su, described the appointment as a very significant step for the organisation. “Jytte has a wealth of experience in medicines development and regulation as well as the respect of the medicines development community. Her wider experience of managing change coupled with her own exceptional management style will be a real boost to what is already a firmly established regional office and we are all very much looking forward to working with Jytte,” declared Ling.
Jytte has many years experience of working with the DIA both as an advisor and, more recently, as Co-Chair of DIA Europe’s Annual EuroMeeting, held in Copenhagen earlier this year.
Dr Beat Widler, Chair of DIA Europe’s ACE (Advisory Council Europe) Committee, welcomed Jytte’s appointment, commenting “Jytte will provide energy and direction to the European office and will be a strong addition to DIA’s Global Management Team. With her energy, network, drive and experience these are exciting times indeed for DIA’s European office.”
At the Danish Medicines Agency she was responsible for all medicinal products (human and veterinarian), medical devices, laboratory control, inspections, reimbursement, pharmacies and distribution, rational pharmacotherapy and statistics on use of medicinal products. The work done there involved close cooperation between all member states, the European Medicines Agency and the Commission as well as some global interactions.
Jytte has also participated as a Senior Adviser on individual assignments at the Copenhagen Business School. Prior to that, she served in director or consultant positions with Greater Copenhagen Transportation, Mercuri Urval a/s, City of Copenhagen, Ministry of Environment and the Technical University of Denmark.
Jytte is a Chemical Engineer with a Ph. D. in Socioeconomic Planning from the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and Operations Research at the Technical University of Denmark.
Jytte is expected to take up her new position on 10 January 2013.
